Injury update post Judgement Day

There’s mixed news from the treatment room on the three Ospreys players forced off with injury during Saturday’s Judgement Day win over Cardiff Blues.

After scoring two tries to move up to seventh in the region’s all time list with 27, winger Hanno Dirksen exited the action late on with a knee injury, while young second row Adam Beard was carted off on a medical buggy and prop Nicky Smith departed for a HIA.

Medical Performance Manager, Chris Towers, issued the following update on Tuesday morning:

Hanno Dirksen

“Hanno picked up a significant knee ligament injury on Saturday. He’ll be scanned this week and we’ll get specialist opinion, and after we’ve run through our processes will be in a position to confirm the full extent of the problem and the best course of treatment for Hanno.”

Adam Beard

Adam suffered a crush injury to the lower leg, thankfully with no significant damage caused.

“There is potential that he will have him in contention for Saturday. He’ll be closely monitored with a decision on his availability made later in the week.”

Nicky Smith

“Nicky was removed from play for a head injury assessment. There are no concerns at this stage and, providing he progresses through the return to play protocols, he remains a potential option for the coaches this weekend.”
