Injury setback for JJ

The Ospreys have suffered an injury blow for the end of season run-in with the confirmation that JJ Engelbrecht is set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up an ankle injury last weekend.

The centre limped out of the action inside the first 10 minutes of last Saturday’s PRO12 defeat to Connacht at the Sportsground in Galway, and Medical Performance Manager, Chris Towers, has now ruled the South African out of action. He commented:

“JJ suffered ankle ligament damage on Saturday night. We’ve discussed the management of his injury with specialists at Spire Cardiff and will continue to observe his injury as he works towards a return to playing within eight weeks.”

Meanwhile, hooker Matthew Dwyer is facing a similar spell out of action after also suffering an ankle injury. Towers added:

“Matthew picked up a significant ankle injury playing for the Army against Worcester last week and is looking at a six to eight week recovery period.”
