Matthew Jones will be out for more than six months after suffering a serious knee injury in Saturday's Cwmtawe Sevens

The one-cap, 22 year old fly-half tore cruciate ligaments in his left leg at the Pontardawe event and will undergo surgery over the next fortnight

Comment from Physio Brian Downey:

''Matthew is desperately disappointed.  He has torn the anterior cruciate ligament and for an injury of that nature there is usually a six-month rehabilitation from the date of surgery.  He will be operated on over the next week or two, so we are looking at some time in February as a probable return.  He was attempting a sidestep and his knee just gave way underneath him.  It is desperately unlucky for him as he also struggled with injury throughout last seasons campaign”

Jones joins David Bishop and Craig Mitchell (knee injuries), Cai Griffiths (shoulder) and Andy Lloyd (ankle) among our pre-season casualties

Bishop and Griffiths are expected to resume early in the campaign and Lloyd is due to resume training imminently
