The Ospreys today confirmed that the LV= Cup game against Gloucester on Friday 9th November will be played at their Liberty Stadium home.
The previous four home games in the competition have seen the Ospreys hitting the road to play at Bridgend Ravens’ Riverside Hardware Brewery Field, with matches against Leicester Tigers, London Wasps, Northampton Saints and Newport Gwent Dragons over the last two seasons all proving popular with Ospreys fans new and old.
However, with in excess of 9,300 members signed up this season, the decision has been made to return to the Liberty for this game as Chief Operations Officer Andrew Hore explained:
“It’s a nice problem to have but the reality of the situation at the moment is that our season membership number is higher than the capacity of any other venues in Ospreylia so we have to play the game at the Liberty Stadium, which is our home.”
“Previous games here against Gloucester have been fantastic occasions with big crowds and great atmospheres and we hope that this will be the same, with fans coming out to see some future Ospreys heroes in action in a return to good old fashioned Anglo-Welsh rivalry.”
Ospreys bosses have acknowledged that some supporters will be disappointed about not returning to Bridgend for this game, and haven’t ruled out playing there again at a later date.
“We only made this decision after lengthy consultation with both Bridgend Ravens and Bridgend County Borough Council, who share our disappointment” continued Hore.
“These discussions will continue with a view to finding a way, if possible, to allow us to return to Bridgend later in the season. There are a number of obstacles to overcome if we are going to be able to do so, not least stadium capacity, but we will look at every option open to us before making any decisions.”
Tickets for the game are on sale now at the Liberty Stadium Ticket Office, online at www.ospreysrugby.com/buytickets and via the Ticket Hotline on 0844 815 6665.
