Gareth Williams joins Ospreys coaching staff as Academy/Transition Skills Coach

The Ospreys confirmed today that ex-Wales skills coach, Gareth Williams has joined their coaching staff.

Williams’ role will see him focus on both the academy and players transitioning into the senior squad, further strengthening the Ospreys’ commitment to developing homegrown players.

He is also one of the few coaches in Wales with a World Cup winners medal to his name, having been part of Wales sevens coaching team that became world champions in 2009.

Williams brings a plethora of player development experience with him, having been Head Coach of Wales u20s and Head of Transitional Players for the WRU. In 2021, he then made the move to a skills coach as part of Wayne Pivac’s Wales senior men’s coaching setup.

Speaking on the move, Williams said: “It’s exciting to have this opportunity with the Ospreys. The club have such a rich history in developing international players so I’m looking forward to playing my part in that.

“There’s a great group of young talent coming through the ranks here, that have a lot of potential, and the prospect of working with them is what excited me most about this role.”

Head Coach, Mark Jones, said: “Having someone with Gareth’s CV focusing on our developing players will be hugely beneficial for us as we continue to build for the future. As a club, we have always played a really high importance on developing our homegrown youngsters and Gareth has already made a noticeable impact on that in his short time here so far.”
