Summer signing Richard Fussell says he's pleased to get off the mark at the Ospreys after scoring his first try for the region on Saturday afternoon.
The wing, who has signed a two-year deal with the region after switching from Newport Gwent Dragons, said post-match that with such intense competition for places he has to take every opportunity he gets, which made his debut try even more satisfying.
Speaking about the score, which helped his side overhaul what had been a healthy Leeds advantage early in the second period, Fussell said:
"It was a good opportunity for us to attack and we took it well. I saw the space behind and knew I had to gamble. Thankfully Gareth put a lovely little kick through and the bounce went my way.
"You always want to get your first game out of the way, every pre-season is the same, because you know it’s going to be a tough one. You’ve worked on your conditioning over the summer so your fit, but you’re not match fit and you know there’s only one way of getting match fit which is to get the minutes on the pitch.
"With my move over the summer there was something extra on it this time for me personally. I wanted to get myself involved as much as I could, I knew I had to try and impress, put my stamp on the game, and fortunately I saw plenty of the ball and I think I did okay.
"I know that there’s real stiff competition for places on the wing here, when you think of the players who weren’t even involved today so I’m pleased to be off the mark. I know that if I’m going to feature this season I’ve got to take every chance I get to pull on the shirt and today was a good start."
