The Ospreys started their Magners League campaign with a hard fought 17-11 win over Edinburgh Gunners this evening. The Gunners offered little in the way of attack but capitalised on Ospreys errors and had a well drilled defence. The Ospreys showed glimpses of their potential but in the end it was the boot of James Hook that secured victory.

It was Edinburgh who started the scoring with a Chris Patterson penalty after 9 minute. They were also next to score with a try from Simon Webster on the half hour mark. The Ospreys bounced straight back with a try from Lee Byrne. At half time Edinburgh led 8-5.

Thge second half proved to be a tense affair. James Hook slotted a penalty after 49 minutes to bring the scores level but Chris Patterson replied with a penalty of his own soon after to re-take the lead. For the remainder of the match the Ospreys piled on the pressure, resulting in the Gunners conceeding 3 penalties that were all converted by Hook. The last of which, in the 80th minute, after the Gunners killed the ball from an Ospreys move that started in their own half.
