Cwmtwrch RFC hosts next Trident event

The Ospreys Community Department will host the next Trident event at Swansea Valley club Cwmtwrch RFC next week (Wednesday 14th November).

Introduced this season, the Trident events are designed to support and promote club rugby across Ospreylia. Three pronged events, they see the region’s Participation Officers, Player and Coach Development Officers come together to provide a platform for local clubs to grow.

At Cwmtwrch, the development team will host a tag rugby festival at the club in the afternoon, with local primary schools Dyffryn y Glowyr, Y Wern, Godregraig and Golwg Y Cwm all invited to participate.

Later, there will be a recruitment event held at Ysgol Maesydderwen between 4.30pm and 6.00pm, with Ospreys player appearances, which is open to anyone aged between six and 14 who may be interested in taking up rugby.

The day is then rounded off at the rugby club Coach Development Officers Tony Thomas and Dan Owens will conduct seminars that will be open all coaches within the club, delivering modules that will be beneficial to coaches operating at all levels from junior to first XV and coaches from all other local clubs will be welcome to attend.

Ben Rose, WRU/Ospreys Rugby Development Manager, said:

“Introduced for the first time this season, the Trident festivals have gone down well with the participating clubs as they allow us to offer real support in various ways, from player recruitment to helping the coaches develop and thus improving the quality of delivery at all levels of the club.

“The work we are doing is helping to increase the player base in Ospreylia, helping to create a stronger rugby community, and helping us towards our aim of long term sustainability as a region.”
