Cwmgors RFC and Ospreys work together for

The Ospreys Community Rugby team will be lending a helping hand to Cwmgors RFC junior section next month when they host a special player recruitment day at the club on Sunday 7th August.

Andrew Thomas, Player Development Officer for the Afan Nedd District, has organised the event in conjunction with club officials, with the objective of attracting new players for the U13, U14 and U15 age-grades.

The Amman Valley club, whose senior side competed in Swalec League Five South West last season, are the latest to benefit from the Ospreys commitment to increasing the playing base in the region, and the first this season to host such an event after 20 special club development nights were hosted across the region throughout 2010/11.

The day will run from 11am to 2pm, and is open to all players in the appropriate age grades who are looking to find a club. There will be a number of special sessions running, while Ospreys players Tom Smith, Morgan Allen and Eli Walker will all be in attendance, and will take part in a question and answer session.

WRU/Ospreys Regional Community Manager, Ben Rose, commented:

“Any youngsters in the U13-15 age-grades from the local community who are looking to find a club for next season are invited to come along to Cwmgors RFC for this event. It doesn’t matter if they have never played competitive rugby before, we want to encourage more people to play so in many ways this is ideal for teenagers who are looking for their first club.

“The Ospreys Community Rugby department are always looking at ways in which we can strengthen the game right across the region, and our development officers work tirelessly with our clubs to make do this. Be it the development of coaches, players or administrators, it is the central plank to everything we are doing at the region. Development from within will make the Ospreys stronger, and is the only way to ensure long-term, sustainable success.”
