The Community Development team have now finalised the line-up for the Annual Ospreys Coaching/Refereeing Conference at the Llandarcy Academy of Sport, the training base for the Ospreys, later this month.
The event, which is open to all coaches of level two and above, and to all referees, will take place on Sunday 31st July.
Ben Rose, WRU/Ospreys Regional Community Manager will introduce proceedings, with Andrew Hore, Chief Operations Officer at the region, making the first presentation on the subject of ‘The Changing Game’.
Mark Bennett, Ospreys Head Conditioning Coach, will then deliver a session on Recovery and Nutrition. We are delighted that Nigel Whitehouse, WRU Match Official Performance and Development Manager will this year make a presentation on behalf of referees, outlining the recruitment and development programme for referees and then making a presentation on ‘Refereeing Advantage’
Practical sessions will then be held by Jonathan Humphreys, Ospreys Forwards Coach, who will look at ‘Attacking Options in the Lineout’ and by Head coach Sean Holley, who’s topic will be ‘Phase Play’.
Tony Thomas, Coach Development Officer, commented:
“We are all aware that the game changes at an alarming pace and it will be fascinating to receive an insight from the perspective of elite performers. In addition, the game is becoming more and more physically demanding and any improvement in these aspects of the development of players can only be beneficial, so Mark Bennet’s session will be a very topical one.
“Following on from the success of last yea’s event, I’d expect the conference to be very popular with coaches from within the region, and we hope to see a number of referees present as well, helping to raise the standards of rugby in Ospreylia across the board.”
