Coach Development team prepare for annual

The 2010 Ospreys Coaching Conference takes place at Llandarcy on Sunday 15th August, and the region's Coach Development team have now finalised the schedule for the day.

There will be a number of sessions throughout the day, delivered by senior members of the Ospreys coaching and management team, along with a number of specially invited guests.

Despite recently taking up his new coaching role at Worcester, former WRU National Academy Manager Phil Davies has kindly agreed to honour his commitment to present a clinic on coaching the contact area, along with Joe Lydon, WRU Head of Development and Performance.

When confirming his availability, Phil Davies said:

“This conference is a fantastic initiative which will provide a huge benefit in respect of the interaction between coaches and referees in the region, as well as providing an insight into coaching techniques at the highest level.”

In addition to the session with Phil and Joe, Ospreys Elite Performance Director, Andrew Hore, will be providing a fascinating insight into Talent Identification. Senior WRU referees James Jones and Huw Watkins will then provide a practical demonstration on how laws will be refereed next season, with particular focus on the contact area.

Jonathan Humphreys will deliver a clinic on the Role Of The Individual in the Set Piece, and Sean Holley will conduct an interactive coaching workshop before Scott Johnson rounds off the day.

Andrew Hore added:

“Following the success of last year’s event, the Ospreys Summer Coaching Conference is a now a central fixture of our Coach Development Programme. It provides coaches in the region with an opportunity to learn from leading professional coaches, to pick up tips and advice that will really help with their own personal development. As an organisation that can really see the bigger picture and is committed to developing from within, events like this one are vitally important if we are to deliver our vision of long term, sustainable success.”

The Conference is open to all coaches in Ospreylia of Level 2 or above. The cost is £20 per head which will include a light snack lunch. Any coaches interested in attending should contact Tony Thomas, Ospreys Coach Development Officer at tthomas@wru.co.uk
