Clubs urged to sign up for 2012/13 Ospreys Cup

The Ospreys Cup will again run during the coming season, allowing junior clubs from right across the region to compete to be crowned as Ospreylian champs.

Teams from Bridgend, Neath Port Talbot and Swansea will go head-to-head at U15 and U16 level in a tournament designed to offer competitive rugby for all clubs, with everyone offered a chance to play for silverware via a Cup, Plate, Bowl and Shield format beyond the four-team, round robin pool stages.

Last season saw Pencoed defeat Bonymaen 13-10 in the U15 Ospreys Cup Final while Swansea Uplands defeated Abercrave in the U16 Final.

There will a special registration meeting hosted by the Ospreys Community Rugby team at Llandarcy on Wednesday 29th August between 7pm and 8pm which all club representatives are invited to attend.

Ben Rose, WRU/Ospreys Regional Community Manager, commented:

“The Ospreys Cup has quickly established itself as the competition that matters to clubs in the region at U15 and U16 level, allowing them to test themselves against teams from the other Districts in the region.

“The highlight for the teams involved in the various finals last season was that they were invited to the Liberty Stadium to parade their silverware in front of big crowds at an Ospreys match, an experience that will live with them for a long time and make them feel part of the region.

“That’s important for us as a Community team as not only are we about producing rugby players, we also want to build links between the clubs and the Ospreys that will lead to more of these children becoming supporters of the region. Making them part of the matchday experience at the Liberty Stadium in this way can only lead to a true sense of being part of the cause.

“We are all looking forward to the 2012/13 Ospreys Cup, which we hope will be bigger and better than ever, and we look forward to seeing the club representatives here at Llandarcy next month for the registration event.”
