Bumper crowd set for Scarlets clash

The Liberty Stadium leg of the Domino’s Derby Series double-header against the Scarlets looks set to be played out in front of the biggest crowd of the season to date, Ospreys bosses confirmed today.

With two weeks still to go until the eagerly awaited clash on Friday 3rd January (KO 7.15pm), the number of tickets issued have soared past the 10,049 that watched the game against Ulster at the start of October, the second highest crowd until now, and is closing in on the 12,378 that turned out at the Liberty a week later for the Heineken Cup match versus Leinster.

Ticket sales have accelerated since confirmation of the date and time last week, and a season high attendance is expected to be confirmed by the time players and fans settle down for Christmas dinner next week – more than a week before the big game.

As demand grows ahead of the game, Chief Executive Andrew Hore said that everybody associated with both regions was excited about the forthcoming double-header:

“It’s a fantastic new initiative that has really generated a buzz among fans of regional rugby” said Hore.

“Rugby people love nothing more than traditional and historic rivalries, and by that I mean players, coaches and supporters alike. This fixture certainly fits the bill, as despite the Ospreys and the Scarlets being just 10 years old, our heritage runs a lot deeper through our community clubs.

“In recent years, Ospreys v Scarlets has become the biggest game in regional rugby with big crowds generating a great atmosphere at some memorable fixtures, and this year promises to be even better with five figure crowds already guaranteed for both legs of the Domino’s Derby Series.

“It’s a great opportunity to enjoy all that is best about Welsh rugby, with family and friends in a fantastic environment. Tickets will continue to fly out of the Ticket Office over the next two weeks but I would advise supporters who intend coming along to support the cause to make sure they buy their tickets as early as possible to avoid disappointment and secure the best available to seats to watch all the action.”
