The latest Trident event organised by the Ospreys Community department in conjunction with community partner RWE npower renewables was held at Bryncethin RFC.
The day-long event got underway with a primary schools tag rugby festival held at the club and led by WRU/Ospreys Participation Officer Mikey Williams, allowing schools in the Bryncethin area to experience rugby at their local club.
Pupils from St Robert's, Tondu and Litchard took part in a round robin tag festival and thoroughly enjoyed their time away from the classroom and out on the field.
This was then followed by a development evening for existing players where Ospreys players Richard Fussell and Tom Habberfield joined Mikey to pass on hints and tips to the whole of the junior section and coaches.
Junior Section Coordinator Andrew Thomas remarked:
''On behalf of Bryncethin mini /juniors may I thank yourself and team for what was pleasurable day/evening. The feedback from children was ‘when are we doing it again/’. Big thanks!''
As the evening drew in, attention turned to the coaches as Tony Thomas, WRU Coach Development Officer for the Ospreys Region, hosted a seminar for all the clubs coaches.
Tony said:
“Six years ago I was invited to Bryncethin RFC to help a small group of volunteers set up the first mini team at the club. It was a huge privilege to return to witness a thriving junior section supported by so many coaches and parents. Bryncethin is a fine example of a club with a genuine community focus. Well done to you all and good luck for the future.”
