Bridgend welcomes back the Ospreys

The Ospreys will return to Bridgend in the new year after confirming that the LV= Cup fixture against Aviva Premiership leaders Harlequins is to be played at the Riverside Hardware Brewery Field.

The fixture, which will kick off at 5.00pm on Sunday 3rd February 2013, will be the fifth competitive match hosted by the Ospreys at the home of Bridgend Ravens, following on from games against Leicester Tigers and London Wasps in 2010/11 and Northampton Saints and Newport Gwent Dragons last season.

The decision to return to Bridgend for this fixture after hosting the game against Gloucester at the Liberty Stadium in November has, according to Chief Operations Officer Andrew Hore, been made for the good of rugby in the region.

“With almost 9,500 season members this year there is a huge logistical operation surrounding taking this fixture to Bridgend” said Hore.

“Ensuring that all those members who wish to attend are able to, as well as the need to ensure that the local Bridgend rugby community, which has supported us so well on our previous visits, can come and get behind the cause, is quite an operation.

“However, as a business we believe that it is crucial that we continue to support the Bridgend district by bringing these games to the town. We are underwriting the entire operation, which comes at a significant cost, to ensure that the local community gets the chance to support their region at their local rugby ground, while the considerable element of Bridgend youngsters in the squad will once again get to wear the Ospreys jersey at their home ground.

“Bridgend has a long and proud and rugby history and we are delighted that the Ospreys are able to help keep that tradition alive. As we continue to grow our support base, games like this one at the Brewery Field are essential. Everybody at the Ospreys is excited about going back to Bridgend for what we know will be another great day for rugby in the region.”
