Bridgend District retain the Wynne Lloyd

Bridgend District Youth took the silverware for the second successive season, recording a comprehensive 29-12 win over Cardiff and the Vale District Youth at Llanharan RFC.

Having won last year's Wynne Lloyd Memorial Cup, the Bridgend side were keen to hold onto the trophy, and raced into an early lead. Tries from winger James Teale (Nantymoel) and centres James Olds (Bridgend Athletic) and Christian Jenkins (Tondu), along with a conversion from fly-half Tom Parry (Bridgend Athletic) ensuring a 17-0 advantage at the break.

Bridgend's dominance continued in the second half, skipper David Bishop (Tondu) scoring a try before man of the match Olds added his second of the game, along with a second conversion from Parry.

With the game won, Cardiff and the Vale scored two late tries through replacement number eight Daniel Crimmins, but there was to be no denying Bridgend District as they made it two consecutive final wins.

Ospreys Elite Performance Director, Andrew Hore, congratulated Bridgend District Youth on their achievement:

"Everyone involved with this success can be justifiably proud of their achievements. This season at the Ospreys, we have re-emphasised the importance of District Rugby to out development pathway, as we recognise the integral part it has to play in the progression of a young player through to the Ospreys set-up.

"For us to create long-term sustainable success at the region, we need the Districts to be strong, providing a supply of players and coaches, which will strengthen our pool, not only at regional level, but at the senior club game as well.

"We take great pride in the success of our District teams, and are delighted by the way that the season has gone for Bridgend, culminating in their win over Cardiff and the Vale, which bodes well for the future."
