Skewen-born superstar Bonnie Tyler will be performing to a Swansea crowd for the first time in years as she takes the stage at the Ospreys next home fixture against current Magners League Champions Munster, on December 5th 2009.
In a rare home performance, the legend will be singing the title track to the new Mal Pope musical, Cappuccino Girls, which opens in Cardiff at the beginning of December, in the Liberty Stadium ahead of the important fixture for the Ospreys, in which they will welcome back the players that were recently called up for international duty.
Accompanying Bonnie on the pitch of the Ospreys’ home ground will be the Cappuccino Girls flashmob, which has been choreographed to the singer’s track by Swansea dance and drama supreme Mark Jermin. The mob created a stir back in September when they first hit the city’s streets with the exciting dance extravaganza, featuring over 150 professional and amateur performers.
Bonnie Tyler said:
“I always enjoy performing in Swansea, and as a rugby fan, I’m looking forward to seeing the Ospreys in action again. I know the Cappuccino Girls may not be the usual soundtrack that Welsh rugby fans are used to on a match day, but hopefully they will appreciate a chance from Bread of Heaven and Calon Lan just this once!”
Roger Blyth, Ospreys Director, said:
“It’s fantastic to have a superstar of Bonnie Tyler’s calibre performing at the Ospreys next fixture at the Liberty Stadium. She is a great ambassador for Wales, and the Ospreylian region in particular, so I’m sure her performance will go down well with our fans and really get the crowd going ahead of this crucial fixture.
“We’re always looking to offer something extra to the Ospreys fans who loyally support us week after week at the Stadium, and we’re hoping that the activities at the Munster fixture will be just what is needed to warm the spectators up and bring some atmosphere to the stands, ready to get behind their team and cheer the Ospreys on to victory against a strong and talented Munster side.”
Alongside the Cappuccino Girls activities, fundraising on the day will also be taking place in aid of the Penllergaer Splash Appeal, where collections will be taking place after the cause was adopted as one of the Ospreys’ preferred charities for the season. The charity has strong links with the play, benefiting from proceeds from the sale of the soundtrack, which is sung by Bonnie Tyler.
The Penllergaer Splash Appeal was launched in September 2005 with the aim of raising £1million to build a hydrotherapy pool within the grounds of Penllergaer Primary School, an integrated school with two units for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties.
Penllergaer Splash Appeal trustee Christine Williams, said:
“It’s been great to have the backing of both the Ospreys and Bonnie Tyler for the Splash Appeal. It’s going to be a brilliant day out, and hopefully the Ospreys and Bonnie fans out there will get behind the Splash appeal, and give as generously as they can to our collection team who will be at the Stadium on the day. Hydrotherapy facilities can change lives, so we have taken on the challenge of raising this £1,000,000 to build a facility, in the school grounds, which will serve not only the school but other community based organisations.”
Bonnie Tyler added:
“The Splash Appeal is a very worthy cause, and I am glad to be able to do what I can to make the development happen.”
