Blues North U16 49 – 0 Ospreys West U16

The Under 16s from the West of the region got their 2016/17 season off to a disappointing start after going up against a mature Blues side.

The Ospreys West U16 team travelled to Merthyr RFC yesterdayto kick off their 2016/17 Regional Age Grade season against a strong Cardiff Blues North U16 side.

The young Ospreys West held out the powerful Blues team for the first ten minutes but once they found their feet the Blues North proved unstoppable running over a total of seven converted tries.

They kicked off their scoring from a line out before six minutes later they were awarded a penalty try after a Dan Hiscoks tackle on a player without the ball. The captain was also shown a yellow card for the incident.

The Blues found the try line again in the first half, giving them a 21 – 0 lead at half time.

The Blues North U16s pulled further ahead in the second half. While the young Ospreys, to their credit, continued to try and play, the Blues physicality dominated. With a few handling errors spoiling the visitors opportunities, even a one man advantage after a Blues yellow card didn’t let them over the try line.

Instead the home side crossed four times to give them a full time score of 49 – 0.
