The Blackout is back

With the Ospreys set for two season defining Heineken Cup clashes over the next two weekends, fans are once again being urged to Blackout the Liberty Stadium when Toulon visit on Saturday 22nd January 2011 (KO 3.30pm).

The initiative to turn the Ospreys home black was introduced ahead of last month’s European tie against Munster, a close game which saw the region clinch a crucial 19-15 win, and such was the impact on the players that they have called for them to make it a regular thing at the Liberty.

Tommy Bowe, who featured at centre in the win over his countrymen said:

“The Blackout is a great idea and all the boys really want it to become the Ospreys ‘thing’, what supporters do as a matter of habit when they go to the game. The impact that it can have, running out of the tunnel to see a wall of black roaring the Ospreys is unbelievable, and I personally would love to see this grow and become part of our culture at the Ospreys.”

Team-mate Ryan Jones echoed his thoughts, saying:

“We are still a very young organisation, we haven’t been going eight years yet, so there aren’t many Ospreys traditions developed yet. The Blackout should be something that really takes off. Loads of fans bought into it for the Munster game, and even though the weather had an impact on the day, the atmosphere that the crowd generated was little short of incredible. It was definitely one of the best occasions we’ve experienced at the Liberty Stadium.

“If we can get fans joining in the Blackout for the Toulon game that will be brilliant. I’ve already proposed that all non-playing squad members have to be part of the Blackout that day, to lead by example.”

Tickets for the Toulon game are available to purchase now at the Liberty Stadium Ticket Office, online at www.ospreysrugby.com, or via the Ticket Hotline on 08700 400 004.
