Ospreys U18s come away with bonus point win in West Wales Derby

Ospreys u18s needed a bonus point win against their rivals, the Scarlets, to lift the RAG Championship and that’s exactly what they came away with.

Scarlets had the first half chance of the game. A long pass created space wide right for the Scarlets, their winger grubbered through but the ball was it recovered by Ben Evans for a goal line drop out.

In an eventful first ten minutes, it was Ospreys who were next to go close. A quality 50-22 kick from fly-half Charlie Thomas won the Ospreys a lineout deep into Scarlets territory. The pack got a vicious maul traveling towards the line, but Scarlets were able turn the ball over in the following phases.

TRY FOR OSPREYS! It’s the return of the rolling maul as Ospreys win another lineout near the Scarlets line, they get the maul going and the Scarlets pack are powerless as Seb Rodriguez-Davies bundles his way over the line. Ospreys unable to convert, 5-0 to the visitors.

As we approached the 15 minute mark, Ben Evans and Charlie Thomas were making a huge impact in this game. Thomas’ left peg, and Evans’ relentless work rate making a huge contribution to the Ospreys early lead.

TRY FOR OSPREYS! The team in black enjoyed a prolonged spell in the Scarlets 22, persistent carrying from the pack eventually resulted in Kian Hire going over for the score. Conversion missed, 10-0 Ospreys.

Scarlets were next on the scoresheet, a kick is charged down by a Scarlets defender who is able to offload to Luke Tucker for the score. 10-5 Ospreys.

HALFTIME – OSPREYS 10, SCARLETS 5.

 

TRY FOR OSPREYS! The team came out soaring in the second half. Some quality carrying from Ben Evans and Sam Matthews sees the team move from their own 22 to the Scarlets line in a matter of seconds. The pack go through the phases which narrows the Scarlets’ defence and Evans finished wide right. 15-5 Ospreys.

Scarlets answered straight back and Matthew Williams came away with a breakaway try. Conversion missed, 15-10.

BONUS POINT TRY FOR OSPREYS! An up-and-under from Lewis Edwards caused havoc for the Scarlets defence and results in an Ospreys penalty. They go for the corner and the rolling maul does the job again and Kyle Harris comes away the score. Thomas converts, 22-10 to the Ospreys.

The Ospreys scrum seemed to grow stronger as the game progressed, they were causing all sorts of problems for the Scarlets in the second half.

Scarlets were able to score a converted try on the buzzer, a pick and go from Macs Page wasn’t enough in the end.
