Q&A with Owen Williams

Following his first day training with the Ospreys, we sat down with new signing Owen Williams to discuss how he’s settled in, the Leicester Tigers game and the Boxing Day West Wales Derby.

First day of training with the Ospreys done, how are you feeling?

Yeah, it's been good, it's been a bit hectic. It’s like the first day of school, learning a lot of moves and getting to meet a few new people. Obviously some familiar faces, but a lot of young boys I haven’t met yet. So it's been good, enjoyed it.

As a Neath boy, is it good to be back where it all started for you?

Yeah it's full circle I guess. Probably 10 or 12 years ago I was here last with u18s Ospreys, so yeah it's good to be back.

Big game against Leicester on Sunday for the boys and yourself included now, we know you enjoyed a good spell there. What’s your thoughts going into the game?

They’re a top team, it’s going to be difficult. It's going to be physical. They’re going to kick a lot and They’re winners really and they’re going to want to come down here and win to get to the later stages of the Heineken Champions Cup so it's going to be a pretty difficult one.

Looking forward a little bit as well to the West Wales Derby which is fast approaching. I know you're an ex-Scarlet as well. What does the game mean to you?

It’s a big one everyone likes to watch isn't it? It means a lot to a lot of people. So yeah, I’ll catch up with some old friends, and obviously not necessarily friends on the field, but afterwards and catch up with boys but I'm looking forward to it. It should be a good one.

A more personal one for you. Any goals for the rest of the season?

I just want to play rugby. I broke my thumb last year playing for Worcester and obviously everything went on there after that. So yeah I just want to play some rugby. It was nice to play for the Barbarians couple of weeks ago and get some game time but I'm looking forward to just getting stuck in with these boys and creating some memories with the Ospreys.
