Ospreys U18s 20 -12 Cardiff Blues U18s

The Ospreys U18s picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday evening, when they welcomed an unbeaten Cardiff Blues U18s side to the Talbot Athletic Ground.

  • Tries from Jordan Evans, Oliver Burrows and Luke Weaver put the young side just ahead against their opponents.
  • Fly-half Luca Caplin slotting the extras made sure the Ospreys edged out in front to seal the 20-12 victory.

In a tight first 20 minutes, both sides battled against each other trying to notch the first points on the board. It wasn’t until the 24th minute that the ball made its way into the hands of fullback, Theo Cabango who sliced his way over for the opening try of the game for the Cardiff Blues. Ben Burnell slotting the conversion handed the visitors the 7-0 lead.

But the young Ospreys answered back almost immediately. Taking advantage of a penalty against their opposition, Luca Caplin kicked for the lineout inside their opponents 22. Making the most out of a strong position, the pack drove over the line, with Jordan Evans grounding the first try for the young eyasses. No conversion kept Cardiff Blues just ahead 5-7.

Keen to keep hold of their lead, the Cardiff Blues side dominated the possession and attack, but the Ospreys side held firm and denied their guests anything for their efforts as the whistle blew for the break.

HALF TIME – OSPREYS U18s 5 – 7 CARDIFF BLUES U18s

Running out for the second half, both sides struggled to keep a hold of the ball in a bid to open the second half scores. 10 minutes into the half, quick interplay from the Osprey side led to a try in the corner from hooker Oliver Burrows. No conversion kept the Ospreys noses just ahead at 10-7.

But dejavu struck. This time Cardiff Blues answering back almost immediately with a huge effort from the pack sending Corben Evans over the whitewash to take them back ahead at 12-10 with no conversion.

Still battling against their opponents, the Ospreys ploughed their way back into the 22. A great take at the lineout from Luke Weaver saw the flanker break his way through Cardiff Blues defence to ground the try over the line. Caplin converting to take the Ospreys back ahead 17-12.

With less than ten minutes left on the clock, the Ospreys did well to keep Cardiff Blues out of the game. Dominating the final stages of play Caplin opted for the three points as the clock turned red to close out the game and secure the victory for the young Ospreys.
