Ospreys and NPTC Group launch HND

From September onwards students will be able to study for a Higher National Diploma in Community Sport and Physical Fitness after the two organisations extended their working relationship.

The Higher National Diploma in Sport is a Level 4 and 5qualification made up of 240 credits, studied full time over two years. Learning will take place both in the classroom as well as out in the local community with Ospreys and Ospreys in the Community.

Students will have an unique opportunity to gain respected qualifications whilst also developing their work based skills within a professional rugby organisation and have the chance see the different roles available to them within both professional and community sport. Work experience will cover a wide range of activities from working with elite athletes to coaching children and engaging with specialist groups such as people with disabilities.

Paul Whapham, Head of Community for the Ospreys, commented on the course;

“We’re incredibly excited to be able to offer this course in conjunction with Neath Port Talbot College. It’s such a unique opportunity for young learners to not only gain an industry respected qualification, but to be able to do it whilst getting hands on experience of working within a professional sports organisation. This work experience will be a huge benefit in their future employability as well as giving them a chance to see and try out different roles that will be available to them.

“One of the central pillars of Ospreys in the Community is Education and adding this HND course to our already very successful TRY, TACKLE and TROSIAD programmes further shows our commitment to education and helping to develop young people of all ages across the region and beyond.

Barry Roberts, Head of Sports and Public Services at NPTC Group of Colleges added:

“This is a fantastic opportunity for students in our area to get a first class education and to get an insight and understanding of the diversity of roles within sport. Students will work closely with Ospreys in the Community to develop grass roots sport”
