Ospreys agree partnership with Dragon Events

The Ospreys have agreed a two-year partnership with local award-winning events business Dragon Events.

The agreement sees the Pontarddulais-based company become a commercial partner of the Ospreys and also its official events partner for all matches and promotional activity.

Dragon Events will work with the Ospreys to facilitate the popular match day village marquee, which is erected in the stadium grounds for all home games and visited by thousands of supporters each match, providing all-weather pre-game entertainment for families.

Having worked with the Ospreys since the start of the season to deliver the village facility, thanks to the commercial partnership now being formalised, the family-run events business will continue to deliver the entertainment facility while also benefitting from a variety of sponsorship and promotional benefits with the region including advertising in the match day programme and branding at all home matches in the stadium. It will also run a number of other promotional events for the club.

“We were delighted to have the opportunity to become the official events partner of the Ospreys. It has given us the chance to raise the profile of our company dramatically and expand our experience managing outdoor events. The number of enquiries we have already had from other businesses has been unbelievable since we started working with the Ospreys,” said Pippa Wafflart, Managing Director of Dragon Events.

Dragon Events is run by Pippa and Events Manager Aled Fowler, a construction expert who had previously worked on a number of large council-run events such as Proms in the Park and pan-Wales events including the National Eisteddfod.

With Aled’s expertise, the company was conceived four years ago, again through working in a sporting environment. The founders helped local rugby club Hendy RFC put on a number of charity events and realised there was a gap in the market for a company that could service every element of an event.

“Rugby is close to our hearts of and we grew from that. As such, working closely with the Ospreys as we are now is a dream come true in many ways,” said Pippa.

“The Supporters Village has been fantastic for us and it is great for supporters. It allows them to socialise before the game and for the kids to have fun in a very safe environment. We can also increase the size of the marquee to accommodate bigger crowds.”

Commenting on the sponsorship deal, Yarnie Guthrie, Ospreys Commercial Manager, said:

“We are delighted to have come to this long-term agreement with Dragon Events. It is great to be working with a successful and growing Ospreylian business that like us is ambitious and wants to be the best at what it does. Dragons Events is a business that knows and understands rugby and will help us grow the already popular Supporters Village into something even bigger and better, while also working with us on a number of promotional events across the region.”

Based in Pontarddulais, Dragon Events offers a wide range of events-based services ranging from supplying and managing luxury marquees to erecting and operating staging and lighting to handling PA systems, dance floors, furniture and much more.
