Ospreys age-grade roundup

The Ospreys age-grade sides were in action this week, here’s how they got on.

Dragons U18s 26 – 7 Ospreys U18s

Looking to build on their victory against the Scarlets U18s last week, the Ospreys U18s travelled to Ystrad Mynach to face the Dragons on Tuesday evening.

The hosts were the first out of the blocks with a try from George Young and a conversion from Will Reed giving the Dragons the early lead.

But their lead was short lived! Only a minute later, Callum Dodd broke free of the Dragons defence to run off his wing and score. Joe Hawkins levelling the scores.

Will Reed was able to dive over the line for the hosts just before the half-time whistle to go ahead 12-7 with an unconverted try.

Running out for the second half, the Dragons were relentless in attack. Fullback Joe Westwood ran clear of the line to extend their lead with a conversion from Reed.

Just before the full time whistle, a huge drive from the pack allowed Conor Chapman to pick up and ground the ball over the line for the try. Westwood converting to hand the Dragons the bonus point win.

Scarlets U16s East 27 – 19 Ospreys U16s East

On Wednesday evening, the Ospreys U16s East travelled to Parc y Scarlets to face the Scarlets U16s East.

The Scarlets were quick to stamp their mark on the game with a try out wide from Rhydian Davies. No conversion kept them with the narrow 5-0 lead with 6 minutes on the clock.

With momentum firmly on their side, the hosts kept the pressure on the young Ospreys’ defence to cross over the line for their second try. Harrison Griffiths with the grounding and Luke Davies with the conversion to take the Scarlets 12-0 ahead.

Carrying on their strong form, the Scarlets came calling once again and a solid drive from the pack sent Logan Sullivan over for an unconverted try.

Just before the half-time whistle, the Ospreys were able to put their names on the scoreboard. A strong carry from Dan Groth sending the number 8 over the line. Ellis Bird converting to take the half-time score to 17-7.

Running out for the second half, the Ospreys wasted no time in adding to their score. Another huge carry from Groth put the forward over the line for the brace. No conversion kept the Scarlets just ahead at 17-12.

A dominant performance from the pack put play deep in the Scarlets 22 once again and a pick up over the line from Lewis Marsh put the scores level with 50 minutes on the clock. A conversion from Bird put the Ospreys ahead for the first time in the match.

Keen to claim back their lead, the Scarlets fought back well and a blitzing run out wide from Rhys Harries sent the wing over for the try. Still holding the narrow 22-19 lead, the hosts dug in deep to keep the Ospreys out of their half. Battling their way into the Ospreys 22, the Scarlets had the last say of the game with a try from Corey Morgan to put the final score at 27-19 to the hosts.
