OitC launches new look schools programme

The Ospreys Schools Programme was re-launched as the TRY Programme last week, where guests received their first glimpse of world leading technology at the heart of the new-look programme.

The Ospreys in the Community team were joined at a special launch event at the Liberty Stadium by schools programme partners and participants as well as Education Consortia staff for the official relaunch of the renamed primary schools. programme,

The sector leading initiative, which last year was delivered to more than 4,000 pupils from schools across the region, has been renamed TRY as the work OitC does with various educational groups and ages expands at a rapid rate.

Paul Whapham, Ospreys in the Community Foundation Manager, said about the launch:

“Our guests enjoyed a detailed overview of the success of the last 18 months and the impact that the educational programme has had on primary schools and teachers , as well as the exciting developments in store for 2018. We heard from teachers and pupils that have been part of the programme and had practical demonstrations from the students of Cefn Cribwr Primary School of what they have learnt and how they utilise the technology.”

The Ospreys in the Community app, developed by TRY Programme partners Aspire 2Be, has undergone some updates and will be pushed out in the new year alongside the exciting, world first, iBeacons.

Simon Pridham from Aspire 2Be explained:

“The OitC app launched today is , we believe, the world’s first, of its kind. The beacon technology means we can send messages, rich curriculum content and offers directly into classrooms across Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend. This is the first time a rugby region can talk and push content directly to schools and teachers rather than relying on them to go to a website or application to get it. This technology brings the Ospreys and its community schools closer together than ever before and will help ensure that the relaunched programme can grow on the success all parties have enjoyed so far,

Selected schools that participate in the TRY Programme will be piloting the technology from January, before it is rolled out to all TRY schools later in the year.
