LV= Launches competition to find next

LV= is launching a young reporter competition designed to recognise the talents of burgeoning young rugby writers up and down the country.

Identified as playing a crucial role in the development of professional players, the LV= Cup is now further broadening its horizons to find young talents off the field. The LV= Young Reporter Competition, which launches today, invites children under the age of 16 to submit a 200 word review of any LV= Round 4 fixture via this link by February 11 at midday.

The writer of the best report will then win four VIP tickets to the LV= Cup Final, as well as an opportunity to interview LV= Ambassador and former England captain, Lewis Moody.

A panel, comprising of representatives from the Rugby Football Union, LV=, Premiership Rugby , the Welsh Rugby Union and a National rugby journalist will review each match report submitted, before the winner and two runner-ups are chosen on Tuesday February 19.

Speaking about the initiative, LV= Head of Sponsorship, Claire Jeromson said:

“The LV= Cup has proved vital in giving so many talented young rugby players the chance to get a taste of first team rugby and now we want to give the next generation of aspiring young sports writers a chance to make their mark too. This is a great opportunity for a potential future sports journalist to meet a legend of the game and get an exclusive interview with them, to help them in their future career.”

As well as receiving four VIP tickets to the LV= Cup Final on Sunday, March 17 at Sixways Stadium and recording an interview with Lewis Moody - which will be played on the big screen at half time – the winner will also be invited to attend the post-match press conference and write a match report of the game which will be published on rfu.com, lv.com and premiershiprugby.com.

The two runners up will also receive four tickets each to the final. All winners must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18.

To kick everything off, here are some top tips for writing a match report:

  • Avoid detailing every aspect of the game; just include the bits that lead to scores.
  • Give it an attention grabbing headline; there are lots of match reports, we want people to read yours.
  • Remember to list the half-time and full-time score; that’s the important bit.
  • Try to begin the report with a brief background about the game; where is the team in their respective pools? Have they got some big names playing for them? Is there anything special about the game?
  • Good luck!
