Ospreys and OitC become Autism Aware

By Ospreys Rugby | 08/03/2019

Customer facing staff from Ospreys in the Community and Ospreys Rugby took part in an Autism Awareness Course at Llandarcy Academy of Sport this week.

Hosted by ASDinfoWales,  the training course aimed to improve staff understanding on the condition ahead of World Autism Awareness Week next month.

Autism is a ‘hidden disability’, meaning it is not easy to recognise when someone has the condition. Support can make a huge difference, and after undergoing the course staff at the Ospreys are now well-equipped to better understand the ways in which we as a business and a charity can support those with the condition.

Tom Sloane, Community Foundation Manager – Ospreys in the Community, commented:

“It was great to have ASDinfoWales with us running their Autism Awareness course in the build up to their conference on autistic wellbeing on April 3rd. It’s a really important step for both Ospreys in the Community and Ospreys Rugby staff to learn about the condition and how we as a business and charity can support those who suffer with autism.

“Individuals with autism can have difficulty in accessing sport and leisure activities and other services, so support from us as staff can make a huge difference. Understanding autism has the power to change lives.  Having just launched our second Inclusive community club at Morriston leisure centre after the success of our ICC at Heronsbridge School in Bridgend, this training will provide our coaches and staff the knowledge to support youngsters and allow even more children to get involved.

"We want as many young people as possible to be able to access sport and fun with family and friends and having this training will enable that to happen as we become an Autism aware business and charity."
