Combined U16 squad announced

Following the conclusion of the WRU Regional Age-Grade season, 26 players have been named in a combined Ospreys squad for the forthcoming round robin U16 regional tournament.

There were mixed fortunes for both the U16s teams this season with the East picking up three wins and five losses and the West claiming three losses, four wins and a draw over the two blocks. The season ended in an Ospreys derby in the final round with the West victorious by a 21-5 margin.

The coaches have selected a squad almost evenly split between the two teams, with 12 named from the East and 14 from the West.

Looking ahead to the U16’s combined squad’s game, head coach of the side Duncan Jones said:

“All the coaches are looking forward to working with the players as one squad after watching them over the two blocks of the regional competition and will be looking to build on the good work already done by the East and West coaches.

“It was really difficult to select the squad after seeing so many talented players so, as always, it's really important that those players that missed out keep working hard and enjoy playing their rugby as the door is never closed.

“For the group who are selected it will be a challenge to gel quickly and really enjoy the chance to play a higher standard of rugby as a combined squad.

“As with any Ospreys age grade team the focus will be very much on skill development, without losing the desire to win those small moments. Get that right and the scoreboard will take care of itself. As with the combined last year all we can ask the players is that we improve as a team every game and enjoy the time we have together.”
