50 up for Biggar

By Ospreys Rugby | 10/01/2018

As he prepares for Saturday’s massive clash with Saracens at the Liberty Stadium, Dan Biggar has been awarded with a special cap by EPCR to commemorate his 50th European Cup game.

Biggar became only the 50th Osprey to reach the half-century of appearances in the Heineken/Champions Cup when he came off the bench to replace Tom Habberfield late in the Round 4 bonus point win over Northampton Saints at the Liberty.

He was presented with his cap after training at Llandarcy Academy of Sport in the build-up to this weekend’s game.

Top of the list is Adam Jones on 60, with skipper Alun Wyn just behind on 56. Jonathan Thomas is in third place on the list on 52, one appearance ahead of Duncan Jones.

The teenage Biggar made his European debut four days before celebrating his 19th birthday, coming off the bench to replace Nikki Walker in the second half of a 12-6 defeat to Leicester Tigers at Welford Road in October 2008, Rhys Webb also making his European bow that afternoon.

His first start came the following weekend, when he scored all the Ospreys’ points in a 15-9 win over Perpignan at the Liberty Stadium.

Six points in this season’s opener against Clermont Auvergne at the Liberty Stadium took him past the 500 point barrier, his current tally of 517 putting him 301 clear of the next highest scoring Osprey in the competition, with James Hook on 216.
