Spratt looking forward to Finals step up

Captain Jonathan Spratt excited by the challenge the squad will face after securing their place at the Ricoh Arena for the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s Series Final on August 7.

Spratt led a veryyouthful side at the BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park, and the skipper believes the team have even more to offer when they head to the Singha 7s Series Final next month.

“I’m extremely proud of all the boys, there weren’t many senior players there, but the younger players really held their hands up and put in three good performances,” he said.

“I wasn’t aware that we were in such a good position, collectively we were extremely good, we had an excellent week of training with the coaches and now we’re just looking forward to getting to the Ricoh Arena. If we can perform and train in a similar way then who knows what we can do!

“It’s something we’re really looking forward to; whoever goes from our team will enjoy it massively. It’s a fantastic event and will be a really big step up from what we saw in Cardiff, which is what you want.”

The team will now take on the Cardiff Blues and six Premiership Rugby sides in a fortnight’s time at the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s Final, as the Series ends with a Carnival in Coventry.

And Spratt is relishing the thought of locking horns with some of their English rivals from across the border.

He added: “The Premiership Rugby teams have some big guns, some really strong talent, and the boys know that level is going to be higher.

“The skill-level and the fitness will have to be improved, but that’s what we play rugby for; to try and be the best you can.

“The Singha Premiership Rugby 7s Series is only going to get better, particularly with the game as a whole going global, so it’s great to be a part of that and even better to get to that final.

“It’s a tough competition, we’ll know that when we go to the Ricoh Arena, but if the boys can make the most of the new experiences then there’s no reason why we can’t do well again.”

The Singha Premiership Rugby 7s continues on Friday at Franklin’s Gardens, Northampton and Saturday at Kingston Park, Newcastle with the Series Finals at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry on Sunday 7 August. For Series Final tickets visit eticketing.co.uk/waps/
