The Ospreys defeated Newport Gwent Dragons in an all Welsh Magners League clash at the Liberty Stadium last night.
Ospreys prop Duncan Jones made his first start since October after recovering ahead of schedule from a foot injury. James Hook was selected at outside centre for the second consecutive match following an impressive attacking display against Edinburgh. A good blend of youth and experience formed the Ospreys bench with the likes of Ian Gough and Filo Tiatia lining up alongside Tavis Knoyle and Jonathan Spratt.
Former Osprey Shaun Connor kicked two successful penalties for the Dragons in the first 20 minutes with Dan Biggar kicking a drop goal in between. Then came the Ospreys first try which saw James Hook show good strength to get over the line. Hook missed the conversion but added a penalty 10 minutes later to put the Ospreys 5 points ahead heading towards half time. However, Connor slotted two penalties in quick succession giving the Dragons a 12-11 lead at the break.
Early in the second half an excellent break from Ospreys centre Andrew Bishop resulted in a yellow card for the Dragon's Rory Sidey for killing the ball. Hook slotted the penalty to put the Ospreys back in the lead for a short while as Connor soon replied with one of his own. Then on the 55th minute, a moment of magic from Shane Williams saw him break through the Dragon's defensive line to score. Hook converted to give the Ospreys a six point lead before Connor clawed the Dragon's back into contention with another penalty. Hook then secured victory for the Ospreys with a penalty and drop goal in the last 5 minutes.
