A family run independent jewellers that has been established in Swansea city centre for 35 years, Spencer Morgan has created a specially commissioned belt buckle that is available only to the nominated players and is therefore an item that is exclusive to a select band of Ospreys senior team players who have earned the recognition from their peers for their efforts on the field.

The concept was borne out of a desire to continue building on the considerable groundwork undertaken last season on developing the team culture at the Ospreys. The Players Player of the Day award became firmly established among the group over the course of the 2008/09 campaign, and is now firmly part of the match day routine. Everyone within the group looks forward to it post-match, and it allows members of the squad the opportunity to give a pat on the back to those who deserve it most.

Head coach Sean Holley explained:

"We wanted to create something tangible that the players could receive when they were nominated as Players Player of the Day, and we wanted it to be something that they could aspire to, something that was exclusive to only them and had a real value.

"Myself and Filo Tiatia worked with Spencer Morgan to design a unique belt buckle that was both a fashion item and something of worth to be cherished. Of note on the buckle are the Osprey bird itself, our Mask, 2003 as the year of our inception, MFL (which stands as our motto for Mates For Life) and the initials of the rugby programme we work in O.U.R.S. (One United Rugby System).

"The process of winning one is pretty straightforward, although not many people will ever be fortunate enough to receive one, as you can see from the list of winners since we started the belt buckle at the start of the season. Players from the match day 22/23 vote immediately post match for their Players Player of the day - this could be for overall contribution/match winning moments - whatever they feel is right. Once a winning player receives his buckle, he can be nominated and win the accolade in another match but he will not receive another buckle as they are limited to just one per person. He does however receive a stud on his belt to signify he is a multiple winner. His buckle is kindly donated by Spencer Morgan Jewellers and is his to keep. Duplicates cannot be bought and are therefore exclusive to an Ospreys 1st team Players Player of the Day.

"We are extremely grateful to everybody at Spencer Morgan for their support, without their help we wouldn't have been able to get it off the ground. When the staff from Spencer Morgan joined us at the Liberty Stadium to present buckles to the first group of winners, the players welcomed them into the dressing room environment with open arms, as they realise how fortunate they are to have their support for this initiative."
