Ospreys go black to basics for 2012/13

This year the region has opted for a traditional black jersey with white trim - but with a huge twist as the names of all 77 rugby clubs in Ospreylia run through the body of the shirt.

Also new this year to both the home and away jerseys is the 'Ospreys 10' logo, again commemorating the forthcoming landmark 10^th season of the Ospreys.

Roger Blyth, Managing Director of the Ospreys, said it was important to remember the contribution made by the community clubs towards the success of the Ospreys:

"We have always prided ourselves on being the one true region, and as we approach our 10^th season what better way to mark it than with a shirt tha takes us right black to basics, both in terms of the colour scheme and alsoin the recognition of all 77 clubs on the jersey.

"Without the excellent work being done at these clubs there would be no Ospreys, it's as simple as that. The efforts of so many volunteers in the many communities of Ospreylia allows youngsters to learn the game, to fall in love with it as players, administrators or supporters, and they are the lifeblood of the game. The majority of our squad represent their home region and started out at these clubs, giving their inclusion on the jersey added poignancy.

"The striking black base of the shirt combined with the club names provide a strong look that we hope will inspire both supporters and the players lucky and talented enough to wear the first fifteen shirt - and those who aspire to wear it in the future."

As is the case with the new away jersey that was revealed earlier today, the Kooga manufactured jersey carries the logo of primary commercial partner RWE npower renewables across the chest.

Other partners who feature on the jersey once again this year are Jewson, Cuddy Group, Maximuscle, Worthington's and Persimmon, while Tesco, South Wales Evening Post, Education Staffing Services and Peter Lynn & Partners Solicitors all appear for the first time.

Ospreys skipper Alun Wyn Jones gave the thumbs up to the new jersey, saying:

"This is the best yet. As Ospreys players we are honoured to wear the shirt, and to do so with all our clubs names running through the jersey will make us even prouder. I'm sure the fans will feel the same because the shirt is paying tribute to their community clubs and the fantastic work they do.

"With this shirt being predominantly black it's going to look great in the stands on matchday, with thousands of fans blacking out the Liberty. We all love it."
