Ospreys give back to Ospreylia.... at Aberavon

Members of the squad including Duncan Jones, Joe Bearman, Richard Fussell, Ashley Beck, Kristian Phillips and Joe Rees, will visit Swn-Y-Mor Residential Care Home on Aberavon sea-front for the afternoon, where they will spend time with the residents.

They will be undertaking a number of tasks, including serving up afternoon tea and taking them for walks along the promenade, and will be on duty between 1.30pm and 4.00pm.

There will be two more 'Volunteers Days' taking place, on Wednesday 27^th and Wednesday 3^rd August, and the Ospreys are looking for nominations from worthwhile causes they can help out. The players are available to assist community projects or initiatives based within the region, and will be looking to turn their hands to activities such as painting, landscaping, fence-building - or indeed anything that they can do together as a group.

Ospreys youngster Ashley Beck said that the team are looking forward to getting stuck into helping some worthwhile causes over the coming weeks, with his group first up at Swn-Y-Mor.

"It's a great opportunity for us to do something for our community" said Beck.

"Most of the squad are local lads, representing our home region, so it's important that we are doing the right thing for Ospreylia. As professional rugby players we realise we are in a privileged position, so to be able to do something like this, helping local people, is the least we can do."

Managing Director Roger Blyth added:

"It's important to us as an organisation to be active in our community. We take great pride in representing the region, and with 83 per cent of our squad actually coming from within Ospreylia, we hope that the community is proud of them.

"Activities like the 'Volunteers Day' are a marvellous way for us to get out and about and really help to make a difference. As well as helping the residents at Swyn-Y-Mor, the boys attending there will also get a great buzz about being able to do something special for some of Ospreylia's senior citizens."

With schools now reaching the end of term, any Ospreys supporters living in the vicinity of Aberavon sea-front are invited to make their way down to Swn-y-Mor Residential Care Home to meet the players when they finish duty at 4.00pm, when they have an opportunity to get their autographs and have their photo taken with the group.
