Parker Pens New Ospreys Deal

The Ospreys are delighted to confirm that Sonny Parker has signed a new three-year contract.

Welsh international centre Parker has agreed a deal that will see him remain with the region until the end of the 2011/12 season.

The 31-year old has made 93 appearances in an Ospreys shirt since moving to the region from Celtic Warriors in the summer of 2004, scoring 22 tries. The New Zealander first arrived in Wales in 1999, signing for Pontypridd from Italian side Viadana, making his international debut in the red of Wales three years later after qualifying through residency. He has gone on to gain 31 caps, scoring six tries for his adopted country. He has played in the last two Rugby World Cup's, as well as featuring in three games during the 2008 Grand Slam.

Speaking after signing his contract today, Parker said:

"I'm obviously pleased to have secured my future at the Ospreys, I believe that I still have a lot to offer the region. The coaches and players here have helped me so much since I signed in 2004, and along with the amazing fans who are the heartbeat of the organisation, have made me feel extremely welcome here.

"To sign me up for another three years, for what may be my final contract, shows the belief that the Ospreys have in me, and is an indication of how they have supported me over the last five years. I want to repay that faith over the next few seasons by helping to bring more success.

"The Ospreys are like a family to me, and I'm happy and proud to be a part of it, Wales is my home and I want to stay here after my rugby career finishes."

Ospreys Head Coach, Sean Holley added:

"We are obviously delighted that Sonny will be staying with us beyond this season. As one of the senior professionals at the region, he brings a lot to the Ospreys, both on and off the field. He is an international calibre player who possesses a lot of leadership qualities. He is particularly adept at mentoring some of the younger talent that we have, passing on his considerable knowledge and experience for the good of the region.

"He has been a real big game player for us in recent seasons, and we firmly believe that there is more to come from a player that we consider to be a true Osprey."
