Tipuric Reflects On World Cup Experience
Young Osprey Academy forward Justin Tipuric (pictured right as an Ospreys U18) has been reflecting on his experiences at the recent U20 Junior World Cup held in Japan in which Wales finished with a credible 6th place finish.
Speaking about his time in Japan, he said:
"It was a great experience and the squad came together really well with a strong training week helping us generate good momentum for our first group games. It was nice to lead the team out and I think the players responded well"
After strong performances against Tonga and Canada, Tipuric was typically honest about the defeat to Australia:
"We viewed it back and despite the scoreline we really had chances to win but it was obvious on the pitch that some of the boys were a bit in awe of the Aussies and some of their super 14 experiences."
However, Tipuric maintained his form throughout and scored the winning try in the playoff victory against Ireland.
"That was a really pleasing win because we wanted to show how we had improved since the Six Nations and the win showed some character and toughness"
Of his own try scoring exploits that saw him finish with 6 tries in 5 games (and the second top try scorer behind Kiwi flyer Zac Guildford), he remained modest.
"It's just a case of right place, right time and just reacting to the players around me".
Finally, what of Tipuric's plans for the summer?
"I will catch up with the Ospreys staff this week and then look forward to a nice break, but I missed a lot of last year with injuries so want to get a really good pre-season in and then get playing regularly again. I'm looking forward to it and will work as hard as I can and see how things go."
