Price is right as Luke re-signs

Ospreys Rugby are delighted to announce Luke Price as the seventh player to sign a new deal to stay at the Liberty Stadium.

  • Two more years for outside half Luke Price, making it seven players to re-sign so far
  • Given the nod to start the opening game of the season, injury then ruled Price out until the festive season but he featured regularly in the second half of the season, helping steer the team in to next season's Champions Cup
  • Captained the Ospreys Premiership Select side before leading the senior Ospreys team throughout last season's Anglo Welsh Cup campaign
  • Has scored 89 points 29 appearances for the Ospreys (17 starts)

With his current contract expiring at the end of the month, 23-year old Price has put pen to paper on a two-year contract with his home region.

“Playing for the Ospreys is what I’ve wanted to do since I was a kid” said the former Abercrave RFC youngster.

“It’s been a mixed season for me. It started off with being selected to start the first game but then picking up an injury, which kept me out of the first half of the season. I’ve had a bit of a taste at the back end of this season now, so I just want to keep going and be involved as much as I can.

“It’s a nice way to top off the season, signing on with the Ospreys. I’ve played more games this year, even with the injury, and next year is about continuing that, fighting to get into the squad as much as I can across the whole of the season.”

After coming through the ranks, playing age-grade rugby for the region and Wales, Price featured regularly in the Welsh Premiership for Neath.

His Ospreys debut came as long ago as January 2014, away to Exeter Chiefs as an 18-year old. He had to wait almost three years for his next senior appearance, but he notably picked up the man of the match award in only his second Guinness PRO12 start, against Glasgow in February 2017.

Noted for his on and off field maturity, outside half Price captained the Ospreys Premiership Select in the British & Irish Cup and led the senior team throughout its 2017/18 Anglo Welsh Cup campaign. Having featured 11 times this season he has now played 28 games for the Ospreys, scoring 89 points.

“It’s really important to have strength in depth at out-half, so it's fantastic that Pricey has re-signed with us” said Head Coach, Allen Clarke.

“He's another local boy with outstanding character who has come through the development pathway at the Ospreys and is proud to represent his home region.

“Pricey has been heavily involved during our winning run at the end of the season, he clearly loves rugby and has shown how good he is with ball in hand. We believe there’s real potential for further growth and we're looking forward to seeing him continuing his development over the next two years.”

Cory Allen, Dan Evans, Luke Morgan, Scott Otten, Nicky Smith and Gareth Thomas have also signed new deals, with Gareth Anscombe and Forwards Coach, Carl Hogg, confirmed as new additions for next season.
