Ospreys learn Anglo Welsh opposition

The Ospreys will face Bath, Cardiff Blues, Gloucester and Wasps in this season’s Anglo Welsh Cup.

The unique format of the competition has seen the Ospreys drawn in Pool 4 where they will compete alongside Leicester Tigers, London Irish and Newcastle Falcons, with fixtures against the teams in Pool 1 to guarantee each team four games, home and away.

Wasps and Bath will visit Ospreylia, with both competition games this season being held at the Liberty Stadium, while the team face two short away trips, to play the Blues and Gloucester.

The Ospreys have played against all four teams in this competition in recent seasons.

There was a memorable trip to a sold out Recreation Ground to face a full strength Bath side, Sam Burgess and all, in February 2015, where a memorable last minute Matthew Dwyer try sealed a 13-10 win for the Ospreys.

Cardiff Blues actually hosted the Ospreys last season, when Tom O’Flaherty (2), Scott Otten, Brendon Leonard and Dan Evans all crossed the whitewash in a comfortable 31-7 win.

That same season saw Gloucester defeat the Ospreys 32-25 at Kingsholm while Wasps will be seeking revenge for a home loss just six months ago at the Ricoh Arena, Kieron Fonotia, Hanno Dirksen and both Jay and Dan Baker touching down in an impressive performance, finishing 31-22 to the Ospreys.
