NatWest support Ospreys Cup

The draw for the quarter-finals of the Ospreys Cup, the cross-district competition for U16 and U15 teams in the region, has taken place.

The competition is now supported by NatWest Wales, who have thrown their weight behind Ospreys in the Community and, the competition itself, which has established itself as the primary competition for clubs in the respective age-grades.

Unique to the region, the Ospreys Cup has seen clubs enjoying cross border competition against teams that they wouldn’t normally encounter with teams from Bridgend, Neath Port Talbot and Swansea going head-to-head, and everyone offered a chance to play for silverware via a Cup, Plate, Bowl, Shield and Challenge Cup format beyond the round robin pool stages.

The quarter-final draw took place at NatWest Wales' Swansea city centre branch, with young Ospreys Phil Jones and Joe Thomas, both former Ospreys Cup participants doing the honours.

Mark Douglas, Regional Director, NatWest Wales, said:

“NatWest Wales is very pleased to support the Ospreys Cup. We have a strong desire to support community rugby across Wales, and the Ospreys Cup competition is a great example of region, Union and clubs working together to support grass roots rugby.

“Rugby clubs are an integral part of many communities and it's great to see almost 50 clubs and over 1000 young people involved in the competition.

“Good luck to all of those involved.”

Paul Whapham, Foundation Manager, Ospreys in the Community, said:

“The Ospreys Cup has established itself as the competition that matters for U15 and U16 sides in Ospreylia and it goes from strength to strength every year. It’s fantastic that a community focused business like NatWest Wales is getting behind the Ospreys Cup, which will continue to grow with their support.

“That support will enable us to increase the profile of the competition and ensure that finals day becomes an even bigger and better occasion than it already is, while Natwest branches in the region will encourage local customers to get involved with their local rugby club and support them through the competition.”
