Ospreys Rugby are delighted to announce that scrum half Tom Habberfield has become the latest player to sign a new deal with the region.
The 22-year old, who kicked off his rugby career at Bridgend Athletic as a youngster, follows on from Joe Bearman and Tom Grabham in committing his future to the region during March, signing a contract which runs until the end of the 2016/17 season.
Capped by Wales at U20s and Sevens, Habberfield came through the regional development pathway to make his Ospreys debut as a replacement in an LV= Cup encounter with Exeter in October 2011.
Having featured just once in the PRO12, he was thrown into European battle at minutes notice the following season after a late injury withdrawal saw him starting on the wing in a draw with Leicester Tigers at the Liberty Stadium before going on to feature regularly in the second half of the campaign.
He currently stands on 48 appearances (two tries), having made his first PRO12 start of this season in the win over Munster earlier this month.
Speaking about his new deal, Habberfield said:
“This is my home region, the only place I’ve played rugby and the only place I want to play rugby.
“All I want to do is wear the shirt so obviously I’ve been frustrated at times this season but I understand that those are the challenges any rugby player faces, whatever level you play at.
“I’ve been in and around the matchday squad recently so hopefully I’ve done enough to stay involved over the remainder of the season and get some more opportunities.”

He works really hard behind the scenes to develop his own game, and although this season hasn’t been as smooth for him personally as he probably would have hoped for, he’s kept working hard, adding real value to the environment.
“We believe in him 100 per cent for the future as a player who can do an important job for us. He has a wide range of skills, and real potential to grow. He’s had to bide his time but he’s working hard to keep pushing his technical game forward, enabling him to become really proficient on a consistent basis at the top level.
“As he continues to develop, his character and his versatility could make him a real asset for us.”
