Jones extends Ospreys stay

Back-rower Ieuan Jones will remain at the Liberty into the new year after extending his loan from Cardiff Blues.

The 21-year old from Aberbargoed was brought to the Ospreys at the end of October on an emergency loan after the Ospreys lost seven back-rowers through injury or international call-ups, and has made a positive impact in his three appearances for the region to date.

Although he isn’t registered for the European Rugby Champions Cup, Jones will provide much needed cover for some crucial Guinness PRO12 games during this period, with the injury situation showing little sign of abating.

Andrew Millward, Rugby General Manager, said:

“Ieuan has done really well since coming to the Ospreys as emergency cover. He has settled in to our environment during a very busy period and has shown the potential that we knew he had.

“This is a very busy time of the year so we are grateful to the Blues for allowing him to stay with us until after the Six Nations. It’s a crucial period for the region so to have someone like Ieuan available, with his positive attitude on and off the field, is a real bonus for us.”
