White Ribbon Campaign gets Ospreys support

Ospreys players including Ryan Bevington, Joe Bearman and Eli Walker have attended events across the region in support of the White Ribbon campaign.

Tuesday 25th November is the annual, International White Ribbon Day, to highlight the work being done all year round to end violence against women and girls.

As part of that, men are encouraged to wear a white ribbon to show their support for the campaign.

The players attended special events in Swansea, and Port Talbot, organised by the respective unitary authorities.

Andrew Hore, Ospreys Chief Executive, said:

“As a high profile, community focused organisation, it is essential that we use our influence in a positive way which is why we are giving our support to the White Ribbon Campaign.

“It is an international campaign, one that highlights an issue that remains, sadly, a widespread problem in some areas of society, so anything we can to help focus attention on the problem is important.

“As was the case with our support of Anti-Bullying Week and the #nobystanders campaign recently, we would urge our supporters to challenge anti-social behaviour in all its forms to help make our local communities better places for everybody to live in.”

The White Ribbon Campaign was first launched in Canada in 1991 as a way for men to speak out against violence against women, with 100,000 men in the country supporting the campaign and wearing the white ribbon.

There are now White Ribbon Campaigns operating in countries around the world with the UK Branch starting in 2004.
