Bridgend confirmed as Dragons venue

The Bridgend Ford Brewery Field will once again play host to the Ospreys in LV= Cup action, after it was confirmed as the venue for next month’s derby clash against Newport Gwent Dragons.

The game, on Friday 14th November at 7.35pm, follows on from the competition opener against Saracens the previous Friday, which was confirmed on Saturday for the Gnoll.

It’s the seventh time that Bridgend Ravens have hosted an Ospreys LV= Cup game since the region first took games on the road in November 2010, with the Ospreys securing four wins from six at the venue.

Last season Bridgend hosted a nailbiting clash with Sale Sharks when the Ospreys overturned a 16 point second half deficit to win 37-36, Aisea Natoga scoring a hat-trick as Sam Davies kicked a last minute touchline conversion to win the game.

After confirming the region’s return to Bridgend Ospreys CEO, Andrew Hore, said:

“Playing an LV= Cup game in Bridgend has become almost an annual event for the Ospreys, something which everybody involved looks forward to. The welcome we always receive from the local business and rugby communities is second to none, and helps ensure that they feel a big part of the Ospreys family.

“Ospreys Rugby has invested heavily into the rugby infrastructure in the Bridgend district, providing a pathway into top flight professional rugby for players, coaches, administrators and supporters alike.

“We understand how important it is for youngsters in the Bridgend area to be able to come and watch their region in their home town, at their local rugby club. The more children we can encourage to come and support the Ospreys, the healthier our support base will be in the long term and the more sustainable we become as a business.”

Derrick King, Chairman of Bridgend Ravens, said:

“We are delighted to be welcoming the Ospreys back to the Bridgend Ford Brewery Field, the fifth consecutive season that we have been proud to host the region in the LV= Cup.

“The entire district gets behind these affairs and we have been fortunate enough to enjoy some great contests and lively atmospheres. This year we have a local derby and I’d anticipate another good crowd turning out to support their region. Hopefully, we will see many more Ospreys games here over the coming seasons.”
