Swansea University and Ospreys seal two-year deal

The Ospreys and Swansea University today confirmed a new two-year commercial agreement, cementing the existing long-term relationship between the organisations.

The deal will again see the University’s logo feature on both the senior team and age-grade jerseys, with the commercial and research partnership between the two organisations seeing the region supporting the already successful rugby structure at the University by engaging sporting scholars with rugby experts.

In addition, a programme  of research collaboration is well underway between the two bodies, not only on the pitch but also with students from the School of Management undertaking work experience within the commercial arm of the Ospreys business.

Rugby players at the University are also benefiting from nutritional testing and advice, sports psychology, lifestyle planning and strength and conditioning testing and coaching. Swansea University/Ospreys rugby scholarships will also be made available for potential students wishing to pursue a dual career path.

Swansea University has an incredibly proud sporting history and excellent sporting facilities which in the next three years will play host to the IPC European Athletics Championships, the European Touch Championships, two Rugby World Cup training camps and the World University 7s Championships. The University’s Sport and Exercise Science Department came eighth in the UK in the recent Guardian league table.

Professor Richard B Davies, Vice Chancellor , Swansea University, said:

“This agreement continues to underline the relationship between two globally renowned but Swansea based institutions. The physical presence of the Swansea University logo on the Ospreys jersey signifies our commitment to the relationship with the Ospreys as we continue to work together and share both expertise and sporting resources.

“The University is at a very exciting time in its history and has global ambition, an outlook that we very much share with the Ospreys. The relationship has considerable momentum already and I am confident that there is far more that we will work on in the future

“With the upcoming opening of our new Bay Campus, a facility that will be undertaking world leading research and development, it made sense to continue to work with the Ospreys to help us share this incredible story.

“We provide an excellent student experience at Swansea University and our partnership with the Ospreys will allow us to continue doing so.”

Andrew Hore, Ospreys Chief Executive, added:

“It gives me enormous pleasure to be able to confirm this new agreement with Swansea University. We already enjoy a first class working relationship that has seen the University established as a key part of our development pathway and an exchange of knowledge which has benefited both organisations. This new commitment will enable us to extend the work that we do together, living true to our ethos of providing opportunities for young people in the region.

“Swansea University and the Ospreys are two organisations at the very heart of the local community, and the relationship is certainly flourishing with both parties seeing real benefit from this collaborative approach. While this agreement is for two years, I would hope to see this relationship lasting for many more years beyond that.”
