Ospreys join Primary Schools for Scrum V Take Over

The Ospreys were on hand to assist as Gnoll and Creunant Primary Schools went head to head in the Clarity League last Friday.

As well as taking part in the Ospreys Schools Programme, both schools are participating in the Clarity League, a contact league for Primary Schools in the Neath area.

Their match was given extra spice  when it was selected as the centre piece of a special Scrum V ‘takeover’, that saw all the pupils get involved as they took over BBC’s popular rugby programme for the day.

Presenters, producers and cameramen from the TV show were on hand to show pupils from both schools how the programme is made.

All the pupils had assumed different roles and while some enjoyed a commentating masterclass from Phil Steele, other pupils learnt the best way to film a live rugby match. The pupils then took a chance to practice their new found skills, starting with a special interview with Dan Biggar.

The two schools then went to the Gnoll for the eagerly awaited fixture, where they were met by Ben John and Tom Smith who gave some pre-match inspiration as they led the team talks for the two sides.

Suitably fired up Creunant and Gnoll Primary Schools took to the field for what was an exciting and tight game. With some impressive tries scored by both teams there was plenty for the watching students to cheer for and the equality in their play showed through as the game ended a 20 - 20 draw.

The Scrum V Take Over continued after the game, with pupils conducting post match interviews with the players and school pundits discussing the game.

Pupils from Gnoll Primary School will get a chance to put their new found skills to the test this week as they visit the Sony UK Technology Centre and get an opportunity to interview Richard Hibbard and Eli Walker in a Q&A session as a part of the Ospreys Schools Programme.
