Walker set for lay-off

Nikki Walker faces further tests on the knee he injured on international duty last weekend before the Ospreys medical team will be able to confirm a full prognosis of the damage suffered.

The Scotland wing suffered medial ligament damage during his country’s win over Italy on Saturday, ending his hopes of going to next month’s Rugby World Cup, and has now returned to the Ospreys where he is under the care of Head Physio Chris Towers and his medical team.

Towers explained that Walker’s injury will be investigated further to discover the full extent. He said:

“Nikki had a scan done in Scotland and we’ve since had an opinion regarding the injury from our doctor. It is a significant knee injury resulting in a lengthy lay-off that will require surgery. We know that much already.

“We haven’t set any timescales yet, and are seeking further opinions regarding prognosis before confirming when surgery will take place. We are continuing to liaise with the Scottish Rugby Union, and will update accordingly when we are in a position to do so.”
