Season memberships and jersey sales soar ahead

The Ospreys continue their preparations for the new season buoyed by positive news off the field, with the record number of season memberships for 2012/13 soaring past the 9,000 mark last weekend, at the same time as the Club Shop reported best first weekend sales for the new jersey.

The first home game of the PRO12 season is now just a little over two weeks ago and supporters are continuing to sign up for memberships with the all-time high total now more than double the number from last season when the Ospreys claimed a fourth league title in their nine year history as the buzz around the region continues to grow ahead of big kick-off.

Management at the National Waterfront Museum also confirmed that 2,000 supporters were present at the Swansea Marina venue last Friday for the eagerly awaited jersey unveiling with fans giving the new-look black jersey, featuring all 77 Ospreylian clubs, a massive thumbs up.

Sales of the new-look jersey followed in the footsteps of season membership numbers, with Liberty Stadium tills ringing all weekend as more shirts were sold on the first weekend of sale than on any previous opening weekend in the region’s history.

Speaking about the good news Ospreys Chief Operations Officer, Andrew Hore, said:

“This is a great boost for everybody at the Ospreys at the start of the new season. Our innovative season membership packages have really caught the imagination of rugby fans in Ospreylia with over 9,000 members now ready to support the cause in 2012/13, while the new jersey has proved to be massively popular with record first weekend sales up 300 per cent on last summer.

“It bodes well for the Ospreys as a business, to see the local community backing us in this way, and we are all really excited about the coming season. We have a young and ambitious coaching team, a good mix of youth and experience in the squad, and a home venue that is going to be bouncing on matchday throughout the season. A mix like that makes for what promises to be an exciting season of bumper crowds, blacking out the stadium in the new jersey. All 77 community clubs in the region are represented on the shirt in recognition of how important they are to our ongoing success and we’re all looking forward to seeing members of those clubs at the Liberty this season.”
