The Ospreys will be launching a brand new matchday performance team at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday and one lucky supporter can choose their name, with the winning moniker unveiled ahead of the big PRO12 game against Munster.
The performance team is being introduced as part of the region’s continuing efforts to develop and improve the full match-day experience for fans, with further enhancements to include the introduction of pre-match and half-time entertainment features.
The new performance team made its first public performance in line with the Ospreys official radio station The Wave on Monday afternoon, when they joined presenter Phil Hoyles in Swansea city centre for an outside broadcast and performed for shoppers in Swansea’s main retail area.
The still to be officially named performance team is made up of 35 females aged 18-23 who are all students at Swansea University and already perform as Swansea Sirens in competitive cheerleading. Their routines include a series of dynamic, fun, acrobatic choreographed routines which are sure to entertain the crowd, a contemporary combination of dance, gymnastics and traditional cheerleading and with performances pre-match and at half time.
Members of the performance group will combine their main role with a mix of alternative responsibilities that will help to enhance various areas around the stadium on match-days including promotional activity in the pre-match Supporters Village and hosting in the corporate areas at the Liberty Stadium.
Now supporters have the chance to name the team in a competition that runs until midnight on Thursday night. To nominate, please email your suggestion to competitions@ospreysrugby.com, with one lucky winner set to win FOUR tickets for Saturday’s game against Munster, with the winning name being revealed at the Wave truck in the Supporters Village on Saturday evening ahead of the game and their first performance.
Ospreys Commercial Manager, Yarnie Guthrie, said: “We hope the people of Ospreylia take the girls into their hearts as they have the Ospreys team itself. Fundamentally it’s about adding some colour, excitement and vibrancy to the match-day experience for the fans and especially the kids. The girls are exceptionally good at what they do and we really hope the public gets behind them.“
The name of the Ospreys performance team will be unveiled on the pitch just before the Ospreys v Munster match at Liberty Stadium this Saturday 29th September.
