Cwmtwrch Trident a success

By Ospreys Rugby | 30/11/2012

The latest Trident event was held at Cwmtwrch RFC, where the community department held full day of development activities for the Club.

The day began with a Tag Rugby festivals for local primary schools organised by Liam Evans, WRU/Ospreys Participation Officer for Neath Port Talbot. In attendance were Dyffryn Y Glowyr , Y Wern and Golwg Y Cwm schools,  all three schools bringing boys and girls from years five and six. In total, 85 children participated in a tag rugby  tournament, some playing rugby for the first time.

The festival was followed by a club development session led by Player Development Officer for the District, Andrew Thomas.

He was joined by Ospreys players Jonathan Spratt and Tom Habberfield who  supported the development evening by working with the children to help them improve their skills. The children were encouraged to participate in all the activities before having photos with the pair. The RaboDirect PRO 12 trophy was also on display while the kids took the opportunity to put their questions to Jonathan and Tom.

The development session was a huge success with over 60 boys and girls ranging from seven through to 14 years old attending.

The day was rounded off with a coaching seminar for all the coaches operating at the club, delivered by Tony Thomas, Coach Development Officer for the Ospreys region.

Tony said: “The response from the coaches was hugely encouraging. The seminar was designed to challenge them to look at their coaching styles and to consider some new ideas. Their input made the evening both enjoyable and rewarding.”

A spokesman for the club said: “The whole event has been a great success. The festival has strengthened our links with local schools and the players thoroughly enjoyed their session with Ospreys players and coaches.  The club coaches who were unable to attend the seminar have really missed out as those who were the found it really helpful. Well done the Ospreys.”

Feeback from the coaches who took part in the seminar during the evening was also positive, with comments coming back to the Ospreys including:

“Really useful event, made me think about how I will deliver coaching in the future to ensure that all the players enjoy the sessions” and “I have already implemented some of the tips provided at this event and the feedback from the players has been very positive”.

The Ospreys will be holding further Trident events at clubs throughout the region over the course of the season, with the aim of servicing local clubs at all levels from mini to senior, driving player recruitment and development as well as helping to improve coaching standards and creating an environment that will allow clubs to prosper.
